Episode 5: Choose Courage and Learn from Failure
Every one of us, entrepreneur or not, goes through situations in life that require above average courage, just like a superhero!
For us, the KEN Academy team, it is important to convey to children that we cannot avoid failure, and that it is not a goal for an entrepreneur either, because failure can be an opportunity: growth, reconfiguration of ideas, setting new goals!
We all believe that any business that has become known worldwide has been very successful. But do we know anything about the failure they went through?
We invite you to watch with your child entrepreneur at a clip about the LEGO business story. Pause the video from time to time to highlight how failure actually led to greater success.
Continue the discussion with your child about his own relationship with failure and courage.
Help him find the source of courage within himself and tell him about your experiences where courage has helped you overcome challenges that have arisen in your life.
Create a discussion environment that facilitates honest answers to the following questions:
- Do you remember a moment when you showed a lot of courage? What made you keep going even if you were afraid?
- Have you ever felt like you failed? Maybe with an assignment, a friendship, an online game, or an assignment from your parents.
- How did you overcome that setback? What did you do after you realized that you should have made other decisions? Did you fix the situation?
Would you like your early stage entrepreneur to choose courage over fear?
Take our word for it, experimentation helps!
- Print the sheet below that gives a new perspective on the acronym FAIL - first attempt in learning / first attempt in learning and stick it in the child's room.
- Challenge him to identify 5 fears he has that he plans to face in the next week. It can be a fear of an insect, of heights, of public speaking, or anything that causes him/her to push himself/herself.
The next episode appears on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
